Canada Revises Reading Curriculum Due to Low Literacy

Several Canadian provinces, including Ontario, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and New Brunswick, are shifting to a phonics-based "structured literacy" approach to improve reading instruction. This move from the "balanced literacy" method aims to address persistent literacy issues and better support students' foundational reading skills. The new curriculum focuses on phonics, phonemic awareness, and decoding skills. Advocates believe this approach will enhance literacy rates and overall student well-being.
