Guelph Advances Single-Use Plastics Ban

Guelph is advancing its Single-Use Items Reduction Strategy. Starting March 1, 2025, businesses must accept customers' reusable drink cups and provide single-use food ware only upon request, except for straws. Paper bags must contain 40% recycled content. This follows the 2023 ban on plastic bags and polystyrene containers. The recommendations, based on a business survey, await council approval on June 25.
