How AI Could Help Detect Alzheimer's Early

University of Saskatchewan researchers aim to use retinal scans and AI for early Alzheimer's detection, potentially decades before symptoms appear. This non-invasive method analyzes retinal and optic nerve changes. The team plans to collect 20 years' worth of retinal scans from 100 Alzheimer's patients and 100 healthy individuals to train an algorithm. If successful, this approach could extend to other diseases like Parkinson's. The project is in early stages, recently funded by the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation.
