Certain psychotherapy and counselling services in Canada are now GST/HST exempt, effective June 20. The exemption, aimed at reducing costs for mental health care, applies to licensed psychotherapists and counselling therapists. Professionals in unregulated provinces with equivalent qualifications are also exempt. The change, proposed in November's economic statement and implemented via royal assent, mirrors existing tax breaks for various healthcare providers like dentists and physiotherapists, excluding Quebec due to its separate tax system.
