Scammers Call Nearly All Canadians, Swindle Millions

A telemarketing scam in Canada targeted almost every phone number, swindling millions. An accused fraudster was arrested upon returning from China, and another was deported to India. The RCMP's investigation, Project Octavia, revealed that scammers posing as officials pressured victims into sending money. Losses averaged $8,000 to $20,000 per victim. Over $34 million in losses were tracked, with numerous arrests in Canada and India.
