Fernandez Wins First Round at Wimbledon

Leylah Fernandez of Canada continued her strong grass-court season at Wimbledon with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Italy's Lucia Bronzetti in the first round. Seeded 30th, Fernandez secured three breaks, including a crucial one to lead 4-2 in the second set. The 21-year-old from Laval, Que., dominated with 80% of first serve and net points won, 21 winners, and a total points advantage of 73-57. She moves on to face the winner of Caroline Wozniacki vs. Alycia Parks next.
